Varsity Softball at Rising Sun- Saturday, April 6

1st Annual Shiner Softball Tournament

Champion- Rising Sun

Game 1- Rising Sun 7, Triton Central 6

TC  0  0  0  0  0  0  6 – 6R 12H 3E
RS  0  0  6  0  0  0  1 – 7R 10H 1E

Rising Sun coach Bryce Kendrick:

Tyrrah Miller gave us a huge swing in our 6-run third inning with a 2-out grand slam.  She later doubled in the game.  Defensively, Tyrrah had three put outs and two assists. One assist was part of a 4-player double play combo in the first which included Abby Wallace, Sydney Bostic and Lindsay Montgomery.  The DP was big as it cut down runners at the plate and at third.

Kassidy Romans was 3 for 4 with a trio of singles and had a pair of assists.  After giving up 6 runs in the top of the seventh, Wallace reached on a 1-out single and went to third on a ball put in play by Miller.  Wallace scored the game winning run on a 2-strike, walk-off RBI single to left by Emma Levi.

Sydney Pitts pitched a complete game with 4 strikeouts and 1 walk.

This was our first game this season where we faced adversity.  Triton Central got a couple of bad hop singles to start the seventh and then found one hole after another with solid hits to fight back to tie the game. It was great inning by the Tigers.

But our girls came off the field with confidence.  After Cora Poling nearly ended the game with a fly ball to the fence in center, Wallace, Miller and Levi did what they needed to do to manufacture the game winning run and put us in the finals.

Game 2- Northeastern 10, Edinburgh 9

Consolation- Triton Central 13, Edinburgh 1 (5 inn)

Championship- Rising Sun 5, Northeastern 0

NE  0  0  0  0  0  0  0 – 0R 7H 3E
RS  0  0  5  0  0  0  X – 5R 7H 0E

Coach Kendrick:

After Sydney Pitts threw 166 pitches spanning the first 11 innings of our two tournament games, Cora Poling made her first pitching appearance of the season.  She protected the win for Pitts in the championship and earned a save in the process throwing 3 shutout innings.  The two pitchers combined on a 7-hit shutout with 8 strikeouts against no walks and 7 hits.  It was a great job by both.

Poling also singled and brought home a run on a sacrifice fly.  Lyndsay Montgomery hit a 2-run homer during our 5-run third inning. She had one put out and three assists, the last of which started a game-ending 5-4-3 double play.  Kassidy Romans made the turn at second and threw on to Pitts at first.  Romans had 5 assists and 2 put outs defensively and singled with an RBI at the plate.

Emma Levi doubled twice with a run while Tyrrah Miller had two singles with a stolen base.

Northeastern pulled off a comeback win against Edinburgh in its first-round game and they played a nice game against us as all of our scoring damage came in one inning.

Hopefully, the tournament championship will give us momentum heading into the conference portion of our schedule.

Thanks to the great fan support we had for both games and to our parents for providing our players with lunch.
