Inclement weather threatened the High Noon showdown between the host Shiners and the Southwestern (Shelby) Spartans on Saturday but the game started on schedule and was highly competitive throughout. The visiting Spartans led 13-11 after 1 and 26-23 at halftime. The Shiners cut it to 1 point at the end of the 3rd trailing 30-29. Both teams gave as good as the got in the 4th quarter but the Shiners ended up on the short end of the stick losing 39-37 with the most glaring difference coming at the free throw line as the visitors went 7 for 7 from the charity stripe and the Shiners went 3 for 8 from the line. The Shiners were led by Junior Kolten Smith’s 14 points and Freshman Dylan Martin’s 6 points. The Shiners (6-11, 2-1) travel to Southwestern-Hanover on Friday, February 14 and host Lawrenceburg on Saturday February 15. Both games start at 6:00pm.
