Thursday April 4th, Rising Sun Track and Field team traveled out to Jac-Cen-Del to run in a 3 way with JCD and Switzerland County. When field events got underway the team once again showed promise earning many ribbons throughout the events. Maddie Wilson earned first place in Disc with a throw of 84′ 10″, 8 ft farther than her wining throw the night before, and earned fourth in shot being 1 inch away from third place’s Engel of JCD. On the boys side Wesley Rider of RSHS took second in shot with a throw of 37′ 9″ while Dalton Cutter got fourth in Discus with 87′ 4″. In the long jump pit Montgomery got first for boys with a jump of 18′ 7″ and RS’s Bujak scored second for the girl’s with 13′ 8″.
The meet continued with the 4×800 relay, the girls team missed this opportunity to score due to injuries however the boy’s team earned second place with a team of Harmon, Boes, Givan, and Vinup finishing with a time of 10:36, only 6 seconds behind the winning team from Switzerland County. In the hurdles Daniel Daughtery lead the boys race with a first place with a large gap between his finish and second place. Kiera Mann secured third for the girl’s team in the 100 high hurdles. The boy’s one hundred meter dash was accompanied by a photo finish for first and second which ended in Montgomery taking the latter with a time of 11.88. The girl’s however took the win with Kinsey Price’s run on 13.3 and a third place run from Elizabeth Bujak with a time of 14.2. Price and Montgomery also placed in their respective races for the 200 meter with Price earning yet another 1st place ribbon and Montgomery getting and second 2nd place.
Other notable performances included a 1, 2 finish by Rider and Harmon of Rising Sun. in the 800 we saw a 2, 3 finish by Given and Harmon of Rising Sun. Daughtery ran another first place finish in 300 lows with a time of 45.5 and team mate Bounds followed in fourth.
Final scores of the meet are as follows: Boys side in 1st JCD – 61, 2nd Switz-50, 3rd RS-45. Girls side in 1st Switz – 60, 2nd JCD-56, and 3rd RS-31
