Shiners News · Boy’s and Girl’s First Outdoor Meet of the Season

Wednesday April 4, 2019 Rising Sun Track went head to head in a 4 way meet against Switzerland County, Milan, and South Western. The first outdoor meet started off great in field events for Rising Sun with boys coming bringing in some major points with a first place in Long Jump, with a jump of 18’10 ¾ “ by Kendall Montgomery, and second place in Shot Put, with a throw made by Wesley Rider of 38’5”. Some other notable performances include 5th place is discus from Dalton cutter and 5th place in long jump from James Bounds.
On the girls side in field events first place in discus and second place in shot both made by Madelyn Wilson of Rising Sun. She had a discus throw of 76’11 and a shot throw of 26’3. Over in the long jump pit the girl’s team had a second place jump of 14’4 ½ “ from Grace Bujak.

After the Field events it was off to the races, quite literally. Boys 3200 meter relay showed up to fight with a second place finish in the relay. Followed by a first place in hurdles from Daniel Daughtery. Girl’s team was unfortunately suffering from some injuries which caused their relay team to not make an appearance at the race, however they quickly reminded everyone of their presence with a first place photo finish in the 100m from Rising Sun’s Kinsey Price.
Throughout the night from the boy’s team we also witnessed 3rd place in 100m dash from Montgomery as well as a 3rd in the 400 from Harmon. The team’s hurdlers brought their A game with a 2nd and a 4th from the duo of Daughtery and Bounds. Dalton Vinup pulled out a 4th in the 800 even while recovering from an injury and he was followed by teammate Brian Givan in 5th place. Freshman Montgomery then added to his stack of ribbons with a 4th in the 200m Dash.
The Girl’s team wasn’t willing to lay down and give up without a fight even being down a few runners. Mann pulled out a 5th in Hurdles. Price ran another first place race with her performance in the 400 m dash. In addition new comer sophomore Grace Bujak got another ribbon with her race in the 200m dash.
Overall total for Wednesday’s meet was as follows- Boys: Milan 43, Rising Sun 44, Switz 46 and S. Western 92
Girls: Rising Sun 34, Milan 50.5, S. Western 58, and Switz with 79.
