In a mid week make up game the Varsity Shiners went to Morristown for a sectional preview of next Tuesday nights Sectional 60 opener versus the defending 1A State Champs. The Shiners came out with energy and passion and stood toe to toe with the champs taking a 13-8 lead at the end of 1 quarter of action. The Shiners extended their lead to 29-22 at halftime and the Shiners appeared to be in business as the defending champs were struggling getting quality shots against the Shiners defense. The Yellow Jackets turned up the pressure defense of the own and the Shiners went cold late in the 3rd quarter and early in the 4th quarter only scoring 5 points in each quarter as the Shiners fell to Morristown 48-39. The difference in the game came down to free throws as Morristown was able to make 12 of 14 attempts while the Shiners only made 3 trips to the line making them all. The Shiners were led by Senior Guards Jake Bovard with 16 points and Noah Pflum with 13. Leading scorer Nick Koons had an off night only scoring 1 basket in the game. Morristown was led by Senior All-State candidate Logan Laster with 18 points. The Shiners will get a chance to exact revenge in the game when they play the same Yellow Jackets next Tuesday in the Sectional opener at Southwestern (Shelby) high school at 7:00 pm. The Shiners (10-11) will have a chance to finish the regular season at .500 as they travel to Hauser on Friday night to conclude their regular season schedule. JV starts at 6:00pm.
