Shiners News · JV battles 1st Place JCD..lose in OT

It was a hard fought ORVC contest as the JV Shiners battled the 1st place Jac-Cen-Del Eagles until the bitter end.  The Eagles were undefeated in conference play and the Shiners were wanting hang an L on their unblemished record.  The Shiners came out in the 1st Quarter and matched JCD’s intensity on defense with and attacking offense that got the Shiners to the rim early and often as they ended the quarter with a 16-8 lead.  JCD roared back in the second and closed the gap to 1 at halftime.  The Eagles took a 2 point lead at the end of the 3rd quarter and a buzzer beating drive to the goal by Kendall Montgomery in the 4th quarter sent the game to overtime.  The Shiners could only muster 2 points in the OT and eventually fell 50-43.  The young Shiners missed 10 free throws in the 4th quarter and OT periods, 6 of those in the 4th quarter alone.  Chase Kuehn led the Shiners with 13 points going 7/7 from the FT line.  Chris Bowne had 11 points in 3 quarters of action, TJ Manifold added 6 points in 1 quarter.

The Shiners (6-11, 1-3) will finish up their conference schedule Friday night, February 15 at home as they host the South Ripley Raiders at 6:00 pm.
