The Shiner defense was on full display Friday night at Madison Shawe, especially in the second half as the Hilltoppers were held to 11 total points in the half. The Shiners struggled early offensively unable to find the high percentage shots that Coach Scholl implored them to take as the Shiners only led 7-5 after the 1st quarter, but a more aggressive 2nd quarter and 2nd half attacking the Shawe full court pressure allowed the Shiners to eventually pull away. The long range shooting of Henry Grote kept Shawe close in the 1st half as he had 13 of their 21 1st half points. The Shiner defense wouldn’t allow Grote to score a single point in the second half. Shawe big man and leading scorer Ethan Stuart was held scoreless in the 1st half and ended the game with 4 points. The Shiner offense was led by Senior Point Guard Noah Pflum who scored 23 points, 17 of which came in the second half. Senior Forward Nick Koons finished with 15. The Shiners (6-7, 1-1) gained their first conference win of the season and will look to get back to .500 as they take on Waldron tonight, Saturday, January 26 in Rising Sun. JV action will start at 6pm as the reserves will take on South Decatur due to Waldron not fielding a JV squad.
