Junior center TJ Manifold knocks down 2 against New Washington
The Shiner Varsity got back in the win column with a gritty 43 to 41 win Friday night against New Washington. The contest was hotly contested the entire way with a 6 point lead being the largest advantage for either team in the game. The game was tied at 9 after 1 quarter. The Shiners took a slim 1 point lead to the locker room at halftime 16-15, but the Mustangs tied it back up at the end of the 3rd quarter 28-28. The Shiners tried to stretch it out in the 4th quarter but the Mustangs kept it close with hot shooting from the 3 point arc. The Shiners had a 3 point lead when they fouled Mustangs leading scorer Bo Giltner with 3.5 seconds to go. Giltner went to the line with a 1 and 1 and knocked down the 1st bringing the Mustangs to within 2. The excitement started with Giltner intentionally missing the second free throw and New Washington tipping the ball back out to point guard Jesus Diaz who was camped out behind the arc, Luckily the Shiners closed out on the shooter and got a hand on the desperation 3 as the horn sounded giving the Shiners their 2nd win of the season (2-3). The Shiners were led by Senior Nick Koons with 11 points as he battled foul trouble all evening and Sophomore Landon Cole who also had 11. Junior TJ Manifold chipped in 9 points as well. New Washington was led by Bo Giltner who led all scorers with 16. The Shiners return to action tonight, December 15th, against the #5 ranked 1A team in the state when they travel to Oldenburg. JV tip time 6:00pm with Varsity action to follow.
