In a game that was the polar opposite from their performance against South Dearborn to open the season. The Shiner reserves came out hot against South Ripley on Saturday night. However Raider guard Nick Schwarte came out hotter than anybody making 5 three pointers in the 1st quarter which made the Shiners fall behind by 9 at the end of the quarter. The Shiners defense tightened up on Schwarte the rest of the way only yielding 1 three pointer in the 2nd quarter and a 2 point basket in the 4th quarter. The Shiners only gave up 1 basket in the 3rd quarter which gave them the lead going into the 4th quarter 38-37. Sophomore Chris Bowne made 1 of 2 free throws with 8 tenths of a second left to put the Shiners up 3 and the Raiders desperation attempt was off the mark giving RS the 52-49 win. Chris Bowne led all scorers with 22 points knocking down two 3 pointers and going 12 for 13 from the free throw line. Big brother Max Bowne scored 10 points in the post for the Shiners.
In varsity action, the Shiners offense came out flat against South Ripley on Saturday night as the Shiners take their first road loss of the season 45-24. The Shiners played sluggish on offense most of the night but found themselves only down 3 points with approximately 3 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter 26-23. But the Shiners could only muster 1 point over the final 11 minutes of the game while the Raiders scored 19. South Ripley’s Cody Samples led all scorers with 20 points making 5 three pointers.
