The Lady Shiners won their final home regular season game Friday with a 24-4 victory in five innings over Shawe. RS pounded out 22 hits.
Junior Sydney Bostic drove in a team-high 5-RBI, clearing the bases on a double and driving in two more runs on a triple. Freshman Lyndsay Montgomery, sophomore Sydney Pitts and junior Lucy Phelps all homered. The trio was a combined 8 for 8 at the plate with 9-RBI.
Starters were pulled after the second inning. Pitts did pitch through four innings (8 strikeouts) but was hit for. Senior Caroline Stapleton pitched the fifth in her final regular season game on her home field.
Other highlights included a pair of 2-RBI efforts from sophomores Emma Levi and Kassidy Romans. One RBI each was recorded by junior Abby Wallace along with freshmen Grace Bujak, Vada Walston and Hannah Warr.
“It was good for the less experienced kids to see substantial playing time in a varsity game,” said coach Bryce Kendrick.
Rising Sun hosted a junior varsity tournament won Saturday by, essentially, Oldenburg’s varsity team (which only has 11 active players). The Shiner reserves fell 21-11 in the first game to South Decatur and 17-5 in the consolation game to North Decatur.
Against SD, sohpomore Lura Little had three hits and 3-RBI, Warr tripled and singled with a ribbie, Walston had a pair of hits and knocked in two runs while Bujak doubled and drove in two runs.
Against ND, Rising Sun was held to just two hits, a 2-RBI double by Walston and an RBI single by sophomore Belle Weaver.
