Lady Shiners end Milan’s 17-game ORVC winning streak
Milan is still the 3-time defending ORVC softball champion, but Friday at David & Butch Brown Stadium, the Lady Shiners snapped the Lady Indians’ 17-game winning streak against conference opponents. Rising Sun won 10-7.
RS had a 13-hit performance as seven of nine starters had at least one hit and all nine reached base at least once. Those having 2-hit games included junior Abby Wallace who singled twice with three RBI. Wallace also made a diving catch in left field which saved a run. Freshman Lindsay Montgomery doubled twice with a ribbie. One was with the help of some very gusty winds.
Sophomores Sydney Pitts and Kassidy Romans, junior Sydney Bostic and freshman Tyrrah Miller all singled and doubled. Pitts batted in three runs, while Romans and Bostic plated one runner each.
Less two consecutive errors in the fourth inning which set up a Milan grand slam, the defense played well. Pitts threw a complete game victory in the circle.
The junior varsity got to play a full five innings for the first time. Sophomore Lura Little singled and doubled. Freshman Hannah Warr had a pair of base hits. Warr along with classmates Shelby Stogsdill and Grace Bujak each had an RBI in the 20-4 loss.
