The Lady Shiners suffered their first loss of the season Thursday, a 3-0 decision to 3A-No. 14 Franklin County. Rising Sun Softball was limited to five hits, two doubles by junior Sydney Bostic and two were singles by junior Abby Wallace. Junior Emma Levi accounted for the only other RS base hit.
Levi also handled a hard-hit liner in right for a putout. Freshman shortstop Lindsay Montgomery knocked down a ball destined for center and turned a double play with junior Lucy Phelps.
In Thursday’s junior varsity exhibition, only three innings were played due to cold weather and time. Sophomore Lura Little had two hits, one RBI and a stolen base. Freshman Chloe Fletcher had an RBI single.
The Lady Shiners begin conference play at home on Monday, April 9 against Southwestern at 5:30 pm.
Rising Sun’s first annual softball tournament for Saturday, April 7 has been postponed to Saturday, April 14. The Shiners will host Triton Central at 11 am in the opening game. Edinburgh and Northeastern will follow in game two. There will be a consolation and championship game after that.
