The Shiner boys basketball team defeated South Ripley 59-37 to earn Rising Sun’s first ever win in the new gymnasium at South Ripley that has been used since 2009. The Shiners outscored the Raiders 35-17 in the 2nd half to cruise to a conference win that secured at least a share of 2nd place in the ORVC. Southwestern (Hanover) defeated Milan 48-46 on Friday to finish ORVC play at 6-0. Rising Sun is 2nd at 4-2 and South Ripley is 3rd at 3-2 with a home game vs. Jac-Cen-Del on Friday. A Raider win would tie them with the Shiners for 2nd. Leading the way for RS was Brent Turner with 16 points, followed by Nick Koons with 14, Noah Pflum 13, Trenton Gridley and Wesley Rider 6 each and Jason McClellan 4. The JV squad lost 50-34. Chris Bowne led the reserves with 11, followed by Landon Cole and Jake Powell with 9, Brent Webb 3 and TJ Manifold 2.
The Shiners traveled to Milan on Saturday for a non-conference game that was originally scheduled for January 12th, but Mother Nature had other plans for that day. The Shiners played hard throughout, and led 50-49 with just over a minute to play in the game, but the Indians were able to knock down free throws for their final 6 points and win 55-50. Nick Koons led the Shiners with 14 points. Jake Bovard scored 11, Jason McClellan 7, Wesley Rider 6, Trenton Gridley 5, Brent Turner 4, and Noah Pflum 3. The JV lost 57-39. They were led by Chris Bowne’s 18 points. Jake Powell scored 9, Landon Cole 6 and Max Bowne, TJ Manifold and Brent Webb all had 2.
