Shiners News · Shiner Boys Defeat Tigers for First Time in 13 Years

Rising Sun earned their first win over Lawrenceburg in a nail biter 69-68 on Saturday in boys varsity basketball  since the Shiners defeated the Tigers 65-59 in the opening round of the 2005 Rivertown Classic.  The game came down to the last possession as Lawrenceburg missed a shot and a rebound opportunity as time expired.  The last minute of the game saw Lawrenceburg grab a 68-67 lead with just under a minute to play, but Noah Pflum quickly answered with 50 seconds left in the game for the Shiners as he hit what ended up being the game winner.  Nick Koons led the Shiners with 23 points followed by 19 from Pflum.  Also in double figures was Jason McClellan with 10.  Other Shiners scoring were Brent Turner 7, Trenton Gridley 6 and Jake Bovard and Wesley Rider with 2 a piece.


The Shiner JV squad also picked up a win in dramatic fashion as Max Bowne nailed a 3 as time expired giving RS a 45-42 win over the Tigers.  Jake Powell led the way with 21 points.  He was followed by Landon Cole and Brent Webb with 6 each, Chris Bowne and Max Bowne with 5 a piece and Daniel Daugherty 2.


The big wins for the Shiners came a day after a tough trip to Southwestern (Hanover).  The Rebels proved they are worthy of their class 2A #9 ranking as they defeated the Shiners 82-53.  Trenton Gridley and Brent Turner led the Shiners with 16 points each.  They were followed by Nick Koons with 8 points, Jake Bovard 5, Noah Pflum 4 and Landon Cole and Jason McClellan 2 each.


The JV also lost 48-45.  Chris Bowne led the scoring with 14 points.  Landon Cole and Jake Powell had 10 each, Max Bowne 4, Dalton Vinup 3, Daniel Daugherty  and Brent Webb 2.
