With girls sectional action taking center stage for the week, the boys played a rare Thursday night game vs. Milan and a rare Saturday afternoon game vs. Southwestern (Shelby) this week. In Thursday’s ORVC match up against the Indians, the Shiners got off to a slow start and were never able to recover as they fell to Milan, 65-55. Scoring for the Shiners were Brent Turner 20, Nick Koons 18, Noah Pflum 11, and Jake Bovard, Trenton Gridley and Wesley Rider 2 each. The JV squad also struggled as they lost 59-27. Scoring for the reserves were Jake Powell 10, Chris Bowne 4, Landon Cole 3, and Bryce Abner, Peyton Bell, Max Bowne, Dalton Vinup and Brent Webb with 2 each.
The Shiners bounced back on Saturday vs. Southwestern (Shelby) as Jason McClellan made his 2nd of 2 free throws with 9 seconds left to put the Shiners back in the lead for good at 62-61, which ended up being the final score. The Shiners dodged two bullets as the Spartans missed two free throws with less than 4 seconds on the clock. Nick Koons’ 19 points led the way for the Shiners. He was followed by Brent Turner with 14, Noah Pflum 10, Jason McClellan 9, Trenton Gridley 8 and Wesley Rider 2. The Shiner JV team played well, but fell just short against a very good Spartan JV squad 53-48. Jake Powell led the team with 16 points. Also scoring were Landon Cole 12, Chris Bowne and Max Bowne with 8 a piece, and Daniel Daugherty and Brent Webb with 2 each.
The Shiners will travel to Southwestern (Hanover) to face the class 2A #9 ranked 18-1 Rebels on Friday and return for a home game on Saturday vs. 11-5 Lawrenceburg.
