Shiners News · Shiner Basketball Teams to Play in Holiday Tourneys

The Rising Sun boys and girls basketball teams will once again participate in tournaments over the holiday break.  The Lady Shiners will play in the Speedway Holiday Tourney for the third consecutive year on Thursday, December 28th.  The 3-8 Lady Shiners will face the 3-8 Indiana Deaf Hoosiers in the second game at approximately 11am.  The first game, starting at 9:30am, will feature the host Speedway Sparklugs (5-7) against the North Putnam Cougars (4-8).  The two losing teams of the morning session will face each other at 2:30pm, followed by the championship game at 4pm.  Rising Sun won the Speedway Holiday Tournament in 2015.  Admission to the tournament will be $7 with free admission for pre-schoolers.  Fans planning on making the trip should use the South Central entrance at Speedway High School.  Directions to Speedway High School

After two years of playing on the other side of the state in the Graber Post Classic at North Daviess, the Rising Sun boys will stay much closer to home this year as they will play in the inaugural Charger Boys Basketball Holiday Classic hosted by North Decatur.  This tournament will also feature a JV tournament among the four tourney teams.  The 3-3 Shiners will play the host Chargers (4-3) in the first game starting at 10:30am.  The Shiner and Charger JV squads will play in the main gym at 9am.  The 7-0 Southwestern (Hanover) Rebels will face the Yorktown Tigers (2-5) in the second varsity game at 12:30pm.  The JV championship and consolation games will start at 4:30pm with the championship game being in the main gym, and the consolation game being played in the auxiliary gym at 4:30pm.  The varsity consolation game will be played at 6pm followed by the championship game at 8pm.  Admission for the Charger Classic will be $6 per session, or fans can purchase an all day pass for $10.  Pre-schoolers will be admitted free.  Fans are asked to enter through either door #22 or door #1.  For Shiner fans who have been to South Decatur, North Decatur’s gym, parking and entrances are the same as South Decatur.  Directions to North Decatur High School
