Girls Varsity Soccer · Rising Sun Lady Shiners advance to Sectional Championship game


In the first game of Thursday night soccer sectional action, the Lady Shiners battled South Ripley. The Rising Sun offense took a little while to warm up and wear down a motivated South Ripley team. At the 27 minute mark of the first half, Sydney Pitts got the offense going with a shot over the goalie, hitting the crossbar and bouncing in. Kasey Baker was credited for the assist. Three minutes later, off a pass from Sydney Pitts, Kinsey Price scored the second goal of the night for the Lady Shiners. A minute later, Jayden McAlister kicked the ball up to the front line with a pass that allowed Kinsey Price to take a couple of dribbles and score. At the 15 minute mark of the first half, Kinsey Price scored her 3rd goal of the night off a pass from Kasey Baker. At the 11 minute mark, Erica Schraeder was able to get past the South Ripley defense and make a short pass to Sydney Pitts for a score. At the 4:54 minute mark, Sydney Pitts scored her 3rd goal of the night, with a drive from the right side that bent into the upper left corner. At halftime, the Lady Shiners were up 6 to O. The second half saw the Lady Shiners change up their lineup to help protect the lead and give players some needed rest. The Lady Shiners were still able to score two more goals against South Ripley. At the 28 minute mark, Erica Schraeder received a pass from Kinsey Price and scored. At the 20 minute mark, Kasey Baker took a shot at goal and one of the defenders touched it with her hands inside the box. Kasey Baker then took the penalty kick and scored with a shot to the left of the goalie. At the final buzzer, Rising Sun defeated South Ripley 8 to O. Rising Sun out shot the Lady Raiders on goal 21 to 4. Rising Sun Goal Keeper, Riley Chipman, had 4 keeper saves. Rising Sun moves on to the Sectional Championship game against Oldenburg Academy. The game time for the championship is Saturday, October 7th, at 7:00 PM.
