Although the Shiner baseball team entered Sectional #60 ranked #5 in class 1A, they were not the favorite to win the Sectional. That honor fell to #3 ranked Hauser. In Saturday’s opening round games (originally scheduled for Wednesday, but postponed due to weather), Rising Sun and Hauser both took care of business as expected. The Shiners defeated Shawe 7-1, and the Hauser Jets defeated Oldenburg Academy 5-0. That set up a semi-final matchup of top 5 teams. The Shiner pitching behind Brent Turner proved to be the difference as the Shiners downed the Jets 4-0. South Decatur defeated Jac-Cen-Del in a mild upset in the other semi-final game 5-1. The Shiners were able to hold off a couple of miner rallies by the Cougars in the championship game to claim a 9-4 win and the Sectional title.

That game will be followed by Indianapolis Lutheran vs. Edinburgh. White River Valley picked up their first two wins of the season yesterday in Sectional #57 action as they defeated the defending Sectional #57 champion Clay City 9-4 in the semi-final and North Central (Farmersburg) 5-4 in the final.
