The Shiner golfers continued what has become the norm for Rising Sun golf – win the ORVC. The team’s 338 at the Links at Rising Star Golf Course was 15 shots better than 2nd place Southwestern’s 353 in a meet that required a Monday finish after play was suspended on Saturday due to bad weather. The start of play was delayed an hour on Saturday, but it still looked as if the meet would be completed on Saturday until a late storm hit the area shortly after 8 PM Saturday evening. All players were able to complete at least 14 holes, with some groups only having one hole to complete. The teams came back Monday evening to finish, and the Shiners were able to hold on to the lead that they had heading into Monday’s finish. The Shiners were led by Sam Markland who took home medalist honors with a 78. Teammate Brent Turner was just a shot back with a 79. They are joined on the All-Conference team by Angelo Gallegos with a 90 and Tristan Brown with a 91. Brent Webb shot a 112 for the Shiners. Other members of the All-Conference team are Southwestern’s Hunter Mefford, Trenton Hadley, and Alex Phillip; Kyle Whitham and Nick Braun from Switzerland County; Jac-Cen-Del’s Aaron Powers and Dalton Simon; and Milan’s Chris Hawk. Team scores were: Rising Sun 338, Southwestern 353, Switzerland County 364, Jac-Cen-Del 416, and Milan 419. South Ripley and Shawe Memorial do not have full teams this year.
